Koi in Water

Koi watercolor

I was thinking that it’s about time I did some of the koi in watercolor.  This subject that’s about the water ought to be represented in a more watery way.  Well, I had been house cleaning — a task that’s closely allied to archaeology — and I found that I already had made at least one version of the koi in watercolor.

I’ll be darned.  What a neat idea.  I’m glad I already thought of it!

(Reason number 126 why house cleaning is sometimes a good thing.)

No matter what you are drawing there always seems to be a sense of joy, an exhilaration. I think it is the wonderful colours but also the energy of the lines both in the fishyfish and the landscapes, joy.

  3. People need joy. In contemporary art the dictum has been that the artist wasn’t supposed to express joy. Artists should assert their prerogatives once more. (I think the artist should be in charge.) And this artist feels a lot of joy.

And as you realize, better than anyone, they are fishyfish. Thanks, Paul

  4. Bene,

(Expression anglais: “great minds think alike.”)

    J’aime beaucoup ces deux phrases:
“People need joy. The artist should be in charge”
    C’est trés vrai.

    En français le dicton est:
    les grands esprits se rencontrent
presque la même chose qu’en anglais.
