yellow-snow

In the previous post I complained about the Carolina snowfall that has intruded upon my travel plans.  I had contemplated the possibility of making a picture of the snow  à la Monet, but gosh darn it, even looking at the stuff from the window makes me cold.  Then I fell upon this very modern idea.  And it’s partly a tribute to my Ellsworth Kelly fans since it’s just a rectangle filled with one color, and I know they like that sort of thing.  Yet, it has meaning too for those who still want a little narrative in their art.  Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you with my latest work: “Yellow Snow.”

It’s certainly faster and easier to do this Ellsworth Kelly inspired art, I gotta tell you.  Think how much more trouble it would be to follow Monet’s example (below from the Musée d’Orsay, Paris), to say nothing of how it might freeze my delicate toes.

Still I am very grateful to how the Ellsworth Kelly folks boost my stats.  Thank you!

  1. Haha. That Monet is so beautiful, I think your point is made. It is odd how people who disagree rarely say anything, although just as many must visit your blog as visit mine. Perhaps we are just so persuasively correct. Yellow snow, hahaha,

  2. Bill,
I should think it goes without saying — though it is fun to say it — that I thought of you when I wrote this post. Please don’t get me wrong — I’m WAY out of your league. But consider this my small tribute.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I’m well aware you are the king.

  3. Aletha – we suffer in the exact same league. Now try to paint a real snow piece. I would bet quite a bit (not everything mind you, but quite a bit) that you can do as good as Monet’s first paintings of snow.

Try a small 5×6 or 6×8 snow piece. You can do it. If you want certainty – here it is, you won’t get better at it by not doing it. We are here to help you celebrate improvement not perfection.

  4. Bill,

That is such a kind sentiment. But I’m not sure even Monet could paint a “Monet” of snow anymore. Did you know that we got snow in the Washington DC region? (I’m back.) I used to love snow! But I have just cleaned off my car for the umpteenth time! I am ready for the heat wave, baby!

    Aletha
